Shepherd’s Pie

Written November 15, 2014 about my first clear case of cooking with the Lord.

I wanted to praise God for a wonderful experience I had yesterday after church. It was our turn to make a meal for the family we’re all helping, and I started with a sense that I should make something special for them, and to make it in a state of prayer.

What followed was absolutely remarkable! I had no real idea what to do ahead of time and just did whatever God brought to mind. I slipped into a groove, an efficient, almost effortless 3 hour process of reinventing Shepherd’s Pie: real Angus beef instead of hamburg, fresh carrots, homemade sour cream & chives mashed potatoes, mild cheddar cheese on top.

The whole process was orchestrated by Him, how much of this, how much of that, including ingredients that I never would have thought to use, doing everything in the right order for the right amount of time, as if I’d made it a thousand times, and it came out perfect!

We made what I thought was too much for them, enough for 4 people, though we had been told it was only for two. We also had enough for us as well, which we ate for dinner last night.

Sherry brought the meal to them and discovered that there were 4 people after all! Had I not made “too much” there would not have been enough! Sherry spent a few minutes with them and was even able to pray for them. Through the entire process, I had a strong sense that the Lord truly loves this family that we’re serving and that we’re privileged to be a part of His work in their lives.

As a side note, I had wondered why we were led to make Shepherd’s Pie and not something else and just realized today that it’s a reference to our Shepherd. This was His pie! Nothing’s too small for the Lord’s attention and it’s such an honor to be a part of it!  It amazes me how the Lord makes things work together for His purposes!

Truly, the Lord turns life into a wonderful adventure!
