Why Epistrepho

Why Epistrepho

Epistrepho began with a personal question that gradually became a larger one.

What happens when someone who was raised deeply within the Orthodox Church finds himself, years later, standing at a distance from it?

The story is not unusual.

A childhood shaped by the Church. Baptism. Altar service. Parish life. Years of participation and responsibility. Then adult life becomes more complicated. Priorities shift. Difficult seasons come and go. Attendance becomes occasional. What once felt central gradually moves toward the edges.

Yet the faith itself never entirely disappears.

Eventually another question emerges:

How many people in their 40s, 50s, and 60s share essentially the same story?

Epistrepho grew from that question.

To turn. To return. To turn toward.

Epistrepho comes from the New Testament Greek verb ἐπιστρέφω. Throughout the New Testament, the word is used for turning, returning, turning back, and — in especially important passages — turning toward the Lord.

That distinction matters.

Epistrepho is not primarily about nostalgia, ethnicity, childhood memories, or returning to a familiar building.

It is about turning again toward Christ.

What Epistrepho Is

Epistrepho is a starting point for Orthodox Christians who want to reconnect with the faith they once knew — or perhaps finally understand it more deeply.

01

Rediscover what Orthodox Christianity actually teaches.

02

Restore prayer and spiritual practice.

03

Return to the Divine Liturgy.

04

Understand Scripture within the life of the Church.

05

Reconnect with parish and sacramental life.

06

Eventually strengthen others.

What Epistrepho Is Not

Epistrepho is not a new church. It is not a substitute for a parish, priest, spiritual father, confession, the sacraments, or the life of the Orthodox Church. It is not a political movement. And it is not an attempt to reinvent Orthodox Christianity for the modern world.

It is simply a bridge back.

Ancient faith. Renewed attention.

Epistrepho exists to help Orthodox Christians who have become distant turn again toward Christ, rediscover the depth of the Orthodox faith, and take thoughtful steps back into the life of the Church.

Epistrepho

Helping Orthodox Christians turn again toward Christ, rediscover the faith, and return to the life of the Church.
